Rhodes, Greece (aka Rodos)

Rhodes (Rodos in Greek) is the largest island in the Dodecanese. Accorsing to mythology, the sun god Helios chose Rhodes as his bride and bestowed light, warmth and vegetation upon her. The blessing seems to have paid off, for Rhodes produces more flowers and sunny days than most Greek islands.

what have i dropped into? HEAVEN!

Day 19

After all the craziness it was time for a super lazy day as possible. Rising from bed as late as possible it was time to scout the streets for some Greek Food. Actually wait, no day of Calafati can be started without a coffee. Unfortunately I failed with finding myself a Freddo (Greek Coffee). Next I found myself downing a Gyros. The Gyros here are totally different from the ones back home. They have chips in them. Yummmmm! They use only pork & chicken which is another difference. We don't use pork at all in Melbourne. The popular ones at home are Lamb & Chicken. Did I mention they are cheap too? Seriously, only £2! I am gobsmacked! To end the day, I took a long stroll to Lalyssos beach to catch the sunset. There was even wifi in the beach to live update my view. BREATHTAKING!! the Greek horizon is so beautiful!! No money in the world can buy such beauty. it's nature. I could easily live here for the rest of my life with such view.

Day 20

Old Town Rodos (Rhodes)

How is it possible for people to actually live behind this 12 metre thick wall? It's so tall, it feels like a fenced off kingdom. To my surprise, there was a castle nested up on the top. What a lucky king or knight. The beach and harbour is right next door. Paradise! The narrow alleys within this enclosed area was amazing. Another breath taking moment for me. Locals actually live inside these beautiful buildings. I wished there was buildings like this at home, I would without a doubt call one my home. I found out later that Old Town is the largest inhabited medieval town in Europe.

Day 21

It took two bus ride and about 2 hours all up to make it to Lindos. It's a small town upon a hill and again you could find the beach below. Here you could find narrow alleys but with a different feel from Old Town. The buildings here were all white. Donkeys were available everywhere as a form of taxi up the mountain. I still can't believe people actually live in these buildings. Not wasting anytime, I picked a restaurant with a roof top to digest the spectacular view. Another breath taking moment. I could sit here forever.  I don't know how much my heart can handle with so much beauty around me. It was only steps away from the beach where a nap was called and before I knew it, it was time to take the last bus back to the hostel. It's time for one last gyros before I call it another night.

What a splendid 4 nights in Rhodes Island. I am off to Athens Tomorrow to meet Jasmine & Stephanie.
